Speech and Language Services. Charlotte Hellmuth MA, CCC-SLP, DIRFloortime (Basic).
Charlotte is an experienced speech-language pathologist who is passionate about neurodiversity affirming services and has a lifelong dedication to learning and unlearning practices to best empower her clients. After getting her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Tulane University, Charlotte joined Teach for America, where she taught 1st and 2nd grade. She then transitioned to being a special education teacher for another 2 years where her love of working with children on their individual needs and goals started to grow. After 4 years in the classroom, she decided to pursue her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Charlotte specializes in early intervention, articulation, phonology, apraxia, gestalt language processing, receptive and expressive language, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She is DIRFloortime (Basic) certified and incorporates the Floortime framework into all of her sessions by understanding pieces of development critical to successful communication, such as regulation, engagement, individual differences and affect. She is also a Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) Trained Clinician, an in-depth course on gestalt language processing, and PROMPT trained (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), a common technique for apraxia of speech.
Charlotte’s sessions are child-led, strengths-based, and provide unrestricted access to sensory supports. She believes there is no wrong way to play and all forms of communication are valid. Charlotte also welcomes and highly encourages caregivers to join her sessions to deepen their understanding of their child’s speech and language development, strengths, and support needs.
Charlotte works with children ages 18 months-12 years. She provides assessments, individual sessions, and social groups. She offers complementary 15-minute video calls to see if your child is a good fit for her services.
